Open Question: Should I ask this girl to homecoming?

I am a freshman in high school and am unsure whether I want to go to homecoming. If I were to go, I would want to ask a girl to come with me. There is this girl who I have had in school for a long time and I really like her. I like her because she isn't the type who is mean to others or gossips. I just think that she is really down to earth. I get so nervous around her though. I also like how she doesn't put herself out there to guys as their toy to flirt with.
